Bakshy Performances — Gavxar Aytjanova (Karakalpakstan)
Caravanserai // Gavkushon Madrasa
All Sessions
16.11.2025 14:00 — 14:40
These performances highlight the living tradition of bakshy — epic singers whose voices carry memory, healing, and history. Traditionally, bakshy were traveling poet-musicians who recited dastans (oral epics), a practice that has been documented across Central Asia since at least the 15th century. The bakshy is not only a storyteller, but a guardian of shared cosmologies. Their practice remains vital today as it sustains intergenerational knowledge, and nurtures a collective sense of belonging and continuity.
